Weight Loss in Your 40s: What’s Helped Me

Losing weight in your 40s can feel really hard. Over the past few years, I’ve made changes that helped me lose about 30 pounds and keep it off. There wasn’t one magic fix. It’s been a combination of habits, patience, and working with my health care providers.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you may remember that I had a stroke in July 2021. It was terrifying, and afterward I was afraid to move. I became less active and turned to food for comfort. Over time, I started taking small steps to feel healthier again.
These are some things that have helped me. This is my personal experience, not medical advice. Please talk with your health care provider before changing medications, starting supplements, or making major changes to your routine.
I talked with my doctor about my hormones
I was dealing with symptoms that led me to discuss my hormone health with my doctor. After reviewing my situation, we decided on a treatment plan that has helped me feel better. Hormone care is personal, so I’d encourage you to talk with your provider about your symptoms and options.
I made changes to my gut health routine
I’ve dealt with gastritis and took omeprazole for several years. After working with my doctor, I was eventually able to stop taking it. I now use the probiotic and greens from Yū Beauty as part of my daily routine. I also add their collagen to my morning coffee and TrimFit to my 40oz water tumbler for natural energy.
These products are part of what I personally use, but supplements affect everyone differently. They aren’t a substitute for medical care.

My morning drink and daily routine
Most mornings, I mix my greens with:
I also try to prioritize sleep, drink water throughout the day, and take magnesium. This is the one I use.
I always stay hydrated and add electrolites to my water every day. Shop here.
I take vitamin D with K because I don’t get much sun during the colder months. Shop here.
Ask your provider what supplements make sense for you.
I lift weights and pay attention to what feels good
Strength training has become an important part of my routine. I use a gym, trainer, or workout videos depending on what works for me. Strong feels good.
I also try to notice how different foods affect me. I limit gluten, dairy, or sugar when I feel they don’t agree with me, but I don’t think one food rule works for everyone.
Some days I stop eating after 7 p.m. and wait until noon or 1 p.m. to eat. That’s what works for me, and it may not be right for everyone.
This journey has been about finding habits I can stick with and getting support when I need it. If sharing what’s helped me encourages someone else to take a first step, I’m glad I shared it.
xoxo,
Kim
